Background Images
IBL is often used in conjunction with photographed backgrounds so that virtual objects can be placed into real world environments with realistic lighting and reflections.
A range of Moofe® background images for each of the IBL lighting images are free to browse and download at shaderlight.com/resources. Each background is photographed in the same location on the same day as the lighting image. Backgrounds are added in the Background section of the Shaderlight Render Settings.
Pro users of Shaderlight for SketchUp can purchase additional Moofe® Lighting Images and backgrounds direct from moofe.com to use via the Shaderlight Custom IBL option.
Positioning the Moofe® Lighting (IBL) Images
The position slider controls the orientation of the Lighting Image. By default the Moofe® preset images are orientated so that the sun is aligned with the green axis. If you wish to change the direction of the lighting, you can rotate the image using the position slider. The slider rotates the image around the vertical (blue) axis. If an image has a light which shines from right to left, rotating it 180° will make the light shine left to right.
Tip: The position slider is useful if you are rendering with a background image. Because the image is fixed, it may be useful to rotate the Lighting Image so that you can match the reflections and light positions to the background |
Preset Lighting Intensity
While the intensity of Lighting Images have been captured from the real world, you may wish them to be brighter or darker in your scene. For example you may want to reduce the brightness because you are combining the Image Based Lighting (IBL) with artificial lights. You can control the intensity of the light from the Lighting Image by using the Dark slider in the SketchUp Shadow Settings.
Note: Remember that all lighting is affected by Auto Exposure, so the Dark slider adjustment will only be noticeable if you have other artificial light sources in the scene or you have Auto Exposure off |
