Korean Cultural Contents Promotion Center Uses RenderDrive to Develop Korean Multimedia Industry
Korean Culture and Contents Agency Adopts RenderDrive 3D Rendering Solution as Part of Government Program to Improve and Grow Multimedia Industry
Advanced Rendering Technology (ART) has delivered three of its RenderDrive RD5000 high-end 3D rendering appliances to the Korean Culture and Contents Agency for inclusion in the “Korea Cultural Contents Promotion Center” established by the agency in Seoul in July 2001. The systems were purchased by the agency through Korea Visual Co. Ltd., ART’s reseller in Korea.

The Korean Culture and Contents Agency, affiliated with the Korean Government’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is briefed to develop the multimedia industry through financial and practical support for the animation, game development, movie, sound and image industries in Korea. From the initial multimedia center in Seoul, the agency intends to establish similar centers in each regional province.

“Quantity of content, rather than quality, has driven content production in Korea in the past. But now, high quality output and high productivity is really important. Korea’s computer graphic industry is maturing rapidly, and the Korean Government wants to continue developing and growing the multimedia industry,” said Sunny Lee, International Marketing Manager for Korea Visual. “We believe that ART’s RenderDrive and PURE 3D rendering solutions fit well with the high quality and high productivity demands of the Korean multimedia industry today, and will assist in the further development of the multimedia industry in Korea.”

On the 15th November 2001, The Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced that it would be working to develop the cultural contents industry as a next-generation growth industry by injecting a total of 350 billion won ($269.23 million) into the industry during 2002. The move is designed to give a big boost to the cultural content fields, including 3D animation.

In an effort to boost the nation's content industry, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism established the “Korea Cultural Contents Promotion Center,” to focus government resources on the goal of improving the nation's content industry. The aim is to solidify the foundation of the Korean contents industry, and provide momentum to the development and production of world-class cultural content. In addition, the center plans to invest heavily in improving the distribution system of the content industry.

The center will concentrate its financial resources on the development of content that emphasizes Korea's cultural identity. The effort is also expected to lead to the creation of an archive of high-quality cultural content.

About RenderDriveŽ
ART’s RenderDrive comprises software and hardware based on the company’s proprietary ray traced rendering processors, which automatically perform the geometry and shading operations of the ray tracing algorithm. The system’s unique toolset includes a host of powerful features that allow users to easily integrate convincing effects such as accurate real-world lighting, physically-based materials, motion blur, and depth of field. By providing a unified, platform-independent rendering environment that harnesses the power and features of major host applications like Maya and 3ds max, RenderDrive ensures that architectural and industrial designers, broadcasters, and post-production and special effects animators can seamlessly realize their projects with a number of modelling and animation packages—all with an unparalleled level of realism.
