A Matt material renders flat colour with no strong highlights or reflections. It has three finishes available which affect the way light falls off as the surface turns away from the light:

Smooth – light falls off gradually into shadow |
|
Rough – moderate fall off into shadow |
|
Chalky – sharp line between light and shadows with an evenly lit surface |
