The transparent preset enables you to create more realistic liquids and colored glass, accurately rendering the way light is refracted through transparent materials. It uses the color of the SketchUp material to accurately control the color of the transparency, so less light passes through a dark colored material and more light passes through a light colored one.
Note: When the the Transparent preset is selected the SketchUp material Opacity will have no effect. Use the material color to control the transparency |
Thin_Glass – refracts light through a single face as if it were a sheet of glass |
Thick_Glass – refracts light through a single face as if going into a block of glass. If it passes through another Thick_Glass face it will refract again as if it is coming out of the glass |
Thick_Frosted_Glass - refracts and scatters light through a single face as if it was a rough sheet of glass. If it passes through another Thick_Frosted_Glass face it will refract and scatter again as if it is coming out of the glass. |
Liquid – refracts light in and out of faces in a similar way to Thick_Glass, but the light is bent less. This simulates liquids which have a lower "refractive index" than glass |
Diamond – refracts light in and out of faces in a similar way to Thick_Glass, but the light is bent more. This simulates materials like diamonds which have a higher "refractive index" than glass. The higher refractive index also means that more light is reflected off the surface of the material as well as being refracted through it |

Glowing_Frosted_Glass0 - Similar to Thick_Frosted_Glass but with a low self illuminating value |
Glowing_Frosted_Glass 1 - Similar to Thick_Frosted_Glass but with a medium self illuminating value |
Glowing_Frosted_Glass 2 - Similar to Thick_Frosted_Glass but with a high self illuminating value |
Glowing_Frosted_Glass 3 - Similar to Thick_Frosted_Glass but with the highest self illuminating value |
