ARTVPS help Taylor James keep it ‘real’
Rendering technology from ARTVPS – a leader in 3D visualisation - is helping one of the UK’s leading creative retouching agencies to enter the world of CGI and provide a photorealistic 3D imagery service to its customers.
Taylor James, specialists in hi-end photographic retouching, has launched REALWorld Rendering, a new CGI division of its business that offers extra creative flexibility and freedom to advertising agencies and photographers.
REALWorld Rendering integrates the latest HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging techniques and ARTVPS’ RenderDrive® technology with the company’s main discipline of hi-end photographic-retouching.
As the only 3D rendering hardware technology of its type, ARTVPS’ RenderDrive® provides a dedicated and powerful platform for the creation of photorealistic images and was the only ‘real’ solution for Taylor James’s newest division.
Glen Taylor, Managing Director at Taylor James said, 'Our company's aim has always been to produce creative and stunning, but more importantly totally convincing rendered images. RenderDrive has enabled us to produce images to a very high resolution allowing us to enhance our levels of realism even further.'
Continuing, Taylor said, 'CGI provides endless possibilities but needs a tight control to ensure the best results. Our "REALWorld rendering™" workflow combines the very latest Photographic, CGI and Retouching techniques to deliver truly stunning imagery. Renderdrive is integral to this unique workflow and because its dedicated hardware we can process massive amounts of data with confidence that the drives will deliver.'
Brian Tyler, CEO of ARTVPS said, “RenderDrive® gives creative agencies like Taylor James the opportunity to enhance their offering to clients. Our technology is opening up new horizons for this industry, plus many others including product design and marketing. We are delighted it is being used to such great effect and is enabling Taylor James to create high quality rendered images that combine CGI with traditional photographic methods.”
RenderDrive® is part of a range of hardware rendering solutions from ARTVPS that also includes RenderServer, a dedicated mental ray platform, a flexible, scalable solution for faster rendering with 64-bit mental ray.

Andy consulted with Taylor James on their "REALWorld rendering™" process and while on the photographic shoot on the Utah Salt Flats, captured all of the reference textures and HDR information required to realistically light the CG robots as if they were actually in the environment. Back in the studio Andy added his creative direction to assist Taylor James in modelling and positioning the hundreds of robots required for this concept. The robots were modelled with a number of different head options taking reference from the clients actual factory robots.
