I already have mental ray integrated in to my 3D application, why should I buy RS-MR?
Because RS-MR uses mental ray standalone it can handle more data than the integrated version.  Sending jobs to an offline renderfarm also means that your workstation isn’t tied up while you’re rendering, leaving your free to work on the next project.
Why would I need the 64-bit version of mental ray standalone?
RS-MR comes complete with a license of 64-bit mental ray standalone as part of the package. The 64-bit version can handle much larger and more complex scenes than the 32-bit version giving you reliable rendering capability whatever the project.

Can I install RS-MR on my existing hardware?
Yes- As an independent Windows application, RS-MR can be installed on any computer running 64-bit Windows.  As well as making the most of your existing hardware investment, its also easy to install RS-MR on machines that perhaps lay dormant overnight – turning your studio machines into a 24/7 renderfarm!

How does RS-MR differ from other render management software such as Qube?
RS-MR is more than a render management tool; it’s a complete renderfarm solution for mental ray that comes complete with a licenced copy of mental ray standalone.

How long does it take to learn how to use?
As an out of the box solution, RS-MR is simple to use.  Any mental ray user will be able to start rendering with RS-MR immediately.
How many people can use RS-MR?
As RS-MR is a network rendering software it can be accessed by multiple users.  A job queue is displayed through the file manager.

Can I use my workstation for other tasks while RS-MR is rendering an image?
Yes, RS-MR takes the rendering burden away from your workstation.

Can I install other software on RS-MR?
Using the familiar Windows environment, additional software renderers or other production or management applications can be run together with RS-MR.

What does the GUI do?
The web-based Java GUI provides simple control of network rendering with mental ray enabling the user to render to multiple servers.  The custom GUI also provides diagnostic output from the mental ray renderer

How do I use ARTVPS shaders with mental ray?
The advanced RP materials from ARTVPS are supplied as mental ray shaders for use with RS-MR.  To use them the user will need to configure their modeling application to recognize and use them.  Instructions will be provided for doing this for Max and Maya.
